His attention to detail was something I’d like to particularly highlight – he would ask a question and then depending on the interviewee’s answer, he would ask them to repeat if it needed to be clearer, or if he would need them to reword what they said, incorporating the question into the answer – it was amazing to see him be the director but also have that editor mindset. I started working with the Matchbox team at the beginning of 2023 with the ‘simple’ task of 14 hospitality edits for the Cheltenham Festival filmed over 4 days with 1month notice – a challenging brief most would say.
